16th Int. Seminar on Furnace Design – Operation & Process Simulation – REVIEW

June 21-22, 2023 – Velke Karlovice, Czech Republic

The 16th International Seminar on Furnace Design – Operation and Process Simulation, organized by GLASS SERVICE (GS), proved to be a resounding success.

The event took place on 21-22 June 2023 at the exquisite Wellness Hotel Horal mountain resort in Velke Karlovice, Czechia. Drawing an impressive gathering of approximately 200 glass experts from 20 countries, including the USA, Japan, Korea, India, and several European nations such as the UK, the seminar received highly positive feedback from its participants.

In conjunction with the Seminar, on 20 June, the ICG Technical Committee 15 & 21 Meeting and the GS Glass Furnace Model (GFM) User Meeting convened, with the attendance of 40 glass specialists. Additionally, a Glass Defects Workshop on the same day saw the participation of around 50 individuals.

The Seminar offered attendees valuable insights into the latest advancements in furnace optimization and CO2 reduction, bolstered by simulations and advanced control techniques. Esteemed industry leaders and organizations, including Schott, Johns Manville, Owens Corning, AGC, LMFV, SEFPRO, and FIC UK, made noteworthy contributions to the proceedings. Furthermore, during the breaks, GS showcased their innovative developments related to the NIR Furnace camera, featuring AI software integration with ESIII and Industry 4.0, thereby facilitating the automation and optimization of the glass melting process through automatic batch monitoring.

The 8th GS Modeling Award was bestowed upon Graham Unwin from NSG Pilkington, recognizing his significant contributions to the implementation of simulation tools within his company and his active participation in conferences worldwide.

Next Seminar will be held on 18-19 June 2025.
